Helen Watson

Helen Watson is one of England's best kept secrets - her singing has been described as "spine-tingling". Check out her latest album "Doffing" (Fledgling Records) on which Helen pays tribute to her favourite song-writers such as Smokey Robinson, Don Covay, and Dan Penn. The album was allegedly recorded in a bedroom so it's no wonder that it is oozing with sensuality and slinkiness. Listening to Helen you might think that she must comes from some soul filled black American neighbourhood, but no, she hails from Manchester, England - that well-known birthplace of the blues.

Here are some pix from Helen's gig at Oxford's new roots venue - Rootsnet. The great Christine Collister joined Helen for a few numbers.
